Stour Valley Walk – Planning
Stour Valley Walk – Planning

Friday 25 August 2017

Susan is away this bank holiday weekend and so I am on my own. Wanting to avoid the crowds and, more importantly, the chaos and stress of the motorways and trains out of London I have opted for the Stour Valley Walk. No. I had never heard of it either but it seems possible and is in completely the opposite direction to all the chaos.
The walk starts in Lenham and ends in Sandwich – actually officially it ends at Pegwell Bay but I am only intending to go as far as Sandwich. Total mileage for all three days is approximately 56 miles.
To make it even more interesting I have decided that I am going to try and do the trek as cheaply as possible setting myself an initial budget of £50 for the whole weekend.
I have managed to get some free accommodation at a relatives house on the first night and have found a cheap hostel in Canterbury for the second night. It’s called Kipps and hopefully will live up to its good reviews.
Here is a break down of the costs

Transport

Ticket from Sandwich to Lenham – £16.00

Accommodation

Day one. Free
Day two. £14 at Kipps in Canterbury

Food

Pasta’n’sauce x 2 (70p x 2 ) = £1.40 (Dinners)
2 large white rolls (16p x 4 ) = £0.08 (Dinners)
Go-Ahead Snacks x 6 =£1.00 (Snacks)
Porridge Sachets x 2 (40p x 2) = £0.80 (Breakfast)
Malt Loaf = £0.60 (Snacks)
2 in 1 Coffee Sachets x 5 (69p for 5) – £0.69 (Drinks)

Total food

£4.57

Total Trek

£34.57
So that leaves me with £15 to spend as I go and maybe have a beer at the end.
The weight of the food above was almost exactly 1kg when stored in my food dry bag but obviously, it will get lighter as I go.
Are you tired of being stuck in the office? Bored of being chained to a desk? Counting down the days until retirement?
Me too!!
