After several months in lockdown, and with the national restrictions now being lifted, we needed to travel to Shropshire on business and so took the opportunity to do a short walk around Caer Caradoc. With its welsh name (Caer Caradog), this hill is set in the most English of countryside overlooking Church Stretton. On a good day, it has impressive panoramic views across to the Wrekin and Wenlock Edge. In English, it means Caradog’s Fort, and local legend has it that this was the site of the Battle of Caer Caradoc, the last stand of Caractacus against the Romans after which he hid in the cave near its summit.
