We needed to get out in the Bongo but didn’t want to travel too far
with all of the lockdown restrictions. Quite by chance, I saw a post on
a Facebook group one evening, and after a brief exchange of messages on
Facebook, I had managed to book us on to a campsite that I had never
heard of before located in a part of Essex I had never heard of
before.
I had better check the map!
Tolleshunt D’arcy Equestrian turned out to be a fantastic, small
campsite at an Equestrian Centre near the Blackwater Estuary. Using
Google Maps, I was able to see that Tolleshunt D’arcy was not far Mersea
Island which was a topic of conversation on a previous walk on the
Dengie Penisula.
I sent a few more messages via Facebook, and within an hour, the
weekend was planned and what a great weekend it was!
The campsite was peaceful, the walking was flat, the weather was
perfect, and for the walk, we met up with some lovely friends who were
the ideal company.
The Route
Distance : 13.5 Miles
We started our walk from Yorick Street in West Mersea where we could
park on the street for free. There are various carp parks on the island
but they all seemed to charge around £5 for over four hours parking.
