Hartland to Bude
Hartland to Bude

Saturday 26 May 2012

Everything that I had read told me that this was going to be a difficult day so I knew that this walk was going to be tough. It is rated ‘severe’ and I was adding an extra three miles to it.
I had thought about splitting the walk into two days but trying to do this anywhere near accommodation or campsites and use public transport just made it too difficult so in the end, I decided to just ‘go for it’.
On the day the temperature was expected to reach 28 degrees and there was a strong southerly wind blowing at around 35 kmph which would mean that it would be blowing me ‘over’ the cliff but the biggest issue was that it was too windy for me to wear my cap so I had no protection from the sun and even though I had my SPF 15 sunblock with me it was little use once I had started to sweat – which I did a lot!
I packed 3 litres of water with me and a few power bars/trek bars. I figured that the only way I was going to be able to do this walk would be by taking a few breaks and taking on board some calories.
I drove to Bude and parked my car and then caught the 7:50 bus to Hartland. From Hartland, I had to do the reverse of my previous weeks walk and walk the three miles to Hartland Quay to begin my walk along the South West Coast Path.
