The Beehive Huts of Dartmoor were igloo-shaped buildings of corbelled
drystone walling that resembled the old-fashioned styled beehives and
were used as a store or shelter.
Lade Hill Beehive (SX 639
814)
One of the best-preserved examples of a Beehive Hut can be found
beside Lade Hill Brook just before it meets the East Dart River.
Holwell Tor Beehive (SX 751
777)
The Beehive at Holwell Tor quarry does not appear on the OS Map and
is virtually a complete building. I suspect that is was built around the
same time that Holwell Tor was quarried – circa 1820.
