Setting off early I managed to reach Hartland Quay just before 09:00
where I was able to park my car and then had to walk the three miles
back to Hartland in order to catch the bus to the Clovelly Visitor
Centre.
This walk is graded as ‘moderate to strenuous’ which seems fair. The
path to Mouth Mill was easy enough and the climb up from the mill to
Brownsham Cliff was the first steep climb of the day and was quickly
followed by another at Windbury but from then on it is straightforward
enough all the way to the Radar Station at West Titchberry Cliff.
Just below the Radar Station, there is a small refreshments hut
selling tea, coffee and cold drinks. It may not be open all year round
so either check first or simply don’t rely on it being open if you do
this walk.
After passing the Light House at Hartland Point you follow the cliffs
for a mile or so before reaching the second set of ‘steep ups and
downs’. These are Upright Cliff, Smoothlands, Blegberry Cliff and
Blackpool with the final section being a pleasant and flat walk across
The Warren and then down to Hartland Quay.
I enjoyed this walk more than the Clovelly to Westward Ho section,
the weather was perfect and the path was not too busy.
