Chrome Hill & Parkhouse Hill
Chrome Hill & Parkhouse Hill

Saturday 03 October 2020

We knew as the weekend approached, that the weather was going to be wet and windy. The summer had been so fantastic that the idea of walking in the rain seemed strange and somewhat disconcerting.

Sunday 13 September 2020

Bianca Bongo had performed wonderfully on our European adventure, so we wanted to give her a little treat. We booked Bianca in for some anti-rust treatment at a place in the Midlands and, wanting to make the most of it; we arranged to meet a friend and do a little walk in the Malvern Hills while we were there.

“Steeple?” said one of our friends. “Why Steeple? There is nothing there!”

Circular Walk from Beeleigh Falls

Sunday 19 July 2020

This weekend we were in Essex again. We were lucky enough to get a pitch on a fantastic campsite and meet up with our friend, Sioban, for a walk in the beautiful Essex countryside.

Mersea Island Circumnavigation
Mersea Island Circumnavigation

Sunday 12 July 2020

We needed to get out in the Bongo but didn’t want to travel too far with all of the lockdown restrictions. Quite by chance, I saw a post on a Facebook group one evening, and after a brief exchange of messages on Facebook, I had managed to book us on to a campsite that I had never heard of before located in a part of Essex I had never heard of before.

Caer Caradoc – Short Walk
Caer Caradoc – Short Walk

Sunday 05 July 2020

After several months in lockdown, and with the national restrictions now being lifted, we needed to travel to Shropshire on business and so took the opportunity to do a short walk around Caer Caradoc.

Socially Distant in Shoreham
Socially Distant in Shoreham

Saturday 20 June 2020

Like many, we have not walked for months. During the ‘lock-down’, imposed as a result of coronavirus, we managed to walk around the local estate for an hour a day for exercise and, on one occasion, we even managed a six-mile walk to a small village next to us. But these were not ‘proper’ walks.

Minster to Sheerness
Minster to Sheerness

Sunday 26 January 2020

A drive out to Minster in the Bongo is not as bad as some might think. I am not entirely sure what this stigma is with the Isle of Sheppey, not being a local, but I find Minster quite a nice place to park up and stroll along the coast a little.

ArcticDry Xtreme Waterproof Socks – My best bit of gear for 2019

Wednesday 15 January 2020

Waterproof socks are not new. They have been around for ages. For some reason, I can’t quite recall; they just never made it on to my kit list.

Mud Ado About Hadham
Mud Ado About Hadham

Sunday 12 January 2020

Much Hadham is a small quintessentially English village in the Hertfordshire countryside that is slightly west of Stanstead Airport and perhaps, more importantly, the starting point of the first Team South East walk of 2020.

Walk off the Mince Pies
Walk off the Mince Pies

Saturday 28 December 2019

Each year there is an annual “walk off the mince pies” walk in the Snowdonia National Park organised by the Walking For Pleasure Facebook group. This year the walk started in Llanberis and took in Moel Eilio (726m), Foel Gron (629m), Foel Goch (605m) and Moel Cynghorion (674m) and Susan, and I decided we would do it!

Dungeness to Rye
Dungeness to Rye

Sunday 06 October 2019

At 6 am I woke up to the sound of engines starting. Some of my neighbours were moving on. My attention then moved on to the crazed tapping on the roof of ‘Bianca Bongo’. It was raining. Heavily.

Folkestone to Dungeness
Folkestone to Dungeness

Saturday 05 October 2019

It has been five and a half years since I was last at Folkestone. Since then, I had tried a few times to sort out a walk from Folkestone to Rye, but each time I was unable to find affordable accommodation and wild camping options didn’t really appeal to me either. The area around Dungeness is a completely open shingle beach with no shelter from the elements and nowhere private too, well, you know.

Orchard Pods

Saturday 28 September 2019

After a comfortable night in the Bongo on the Isle of Sheppey, Susan and I made our way over to Queenborough to do a little exploring. It was my first time on Sheppey and I was finding the whole area fascinating.

Bongo Life – Isle of Sheppey
Bongo Life – Isle of Sheppey

Friday 27 September 2019

We have owned Bianca Bongo for just over two weeks now and have been itching to spend the night out in her. Unfortunately, we had a bunch of pre-arranged commitments preventing us from getting away but this evening we have managed to sneak out!

Tsambika Mountain Walk
Tsambika Mountain Walk

Wednesday 17 April 2019

From the walkway to our hotel room, we had a great view of the hill behind. It is called Tsambika Mountain and sitting on the top of it is a small monastery called Kyra Tsambika.

Afandou to Kolymbia Bay
Afandou to Kolymbia Bay

Sunday 14 April 2019

After another leisurely breakfast, we check out of the hotel and headed into the centre of Rhodes Town. We only had two things to do today. Get some cash from an ATM and get a bus to Kolymbia.

Ancient Rhodes Town Circular

Saturday 13 April 2019

We had a good nights sleep at our accommodation, Galanopetra, and ate our breakfast in the courtyard, sitting in the morning sun.

Rhodes Town - Greece
Rhodes Town - Greece

Friday 12 April 2019

We caught an early morning flight from Gatwick and arrived on the Island of Rhodes at around midday. We only had carry-on luggage, our rucksacks, so we were quick to leave the aircraft and get through passport control but we still managed to miss the bus to Rhodes Town by ten minutes and would have to wait for another fifty minutes for the next one.

North Downs Way – Cuxton to Wrotham
North Downs Way – Cuxton to Wrotham

Sunday 31 March 2019

Not long after my previous adventure on the North Downs Way, I had the opportunity to do another section while everyone else was out for the day.

Are you tired of being stuck in the office? Bored of being chained to a desk? Counting down the days until retirement?
